Salem 13, Danvers Blue 4: Anthony Levesque and Christian Montanez combined to allow three hits and struck out five as Salem prevailed in a five inning rain-shortened game last night. Timmy Ryan went 3-for-4 at the dish, scoring three runs and driving in two, while Matt Marquez and Zach Leblanc both had RBI base hits.
Salem, which improved to 7-5, turned a couple of double plays thanks to smooth defense from Sean Curtain, Cody Mercier and Leblanc.
Danvers 10, Newburyport 9: Nat Casey went 3 2/3 innings, striking out a pair of batters, while Connor Kelleher came in in relief, finishing with nine strikeouts. Alex Valles went 1-for-3 with a RBI, a run and a walk, Cris Valles finished 2-for-3 with a double, RBI and a run scored. Ryan Hebert had the game-winning RBI on walk.
FUTURES COLLEGIATE BASEBALL LEAGUE
Navs drop two: Weary North Shore lost both ends of a doubleheader with Wachusett, 6-1 and 6-0, to fall back under .500 on the summer at 13-14. Tim Hendricks and Devin Carter each had two hits in the first game and Andrew Brodbeck drove in North Shore’s run but the Dirt Dawgs scored five in the third and never trailed. Derek Hirsch was North Shore’s only 2-hit man in the nightcap.
NORTH SHORE GIRLS SUMMER BASKETBALL
Manchester Essex 37, Gloucester 26: Sydney Christopher led the way for the Hornets with 18 points, while Jules Costanzo had 11 for Gloucester.
Bishop Fenwick 39, Danvers 29: Kate Lipka scored a game-high 16 points for the Crusaders. Emily McNulty (10 points) and Devan Walsh (nine points) were the high scores for the Falcons.
Hamilton-Wenham 31, Lynnfield 25: The Generals were led by Molly Eagar (nine points, while Emma Mancini netted six for Lynnfield.
Ipswich 51, Beverly 33: Jenna Gagnon was Ipsiwch leading scorer with 17, as Brooke Williams chipped in with 14. Ashley Keaton finished with 12.
