Ipswich 3, Marian 1: The Tigers (10-4-7) captured their third Div. 3 North playoff win with goals from Brigid O’Flynn, Julia Davis and Lia Ziegler.
“Brigid has been doing a nice job for us through the tournament,” head coach Nancy Waddell said of O’Flynn who’s had goals in the last two games. “When we’re playing flat, she picks us up to another level and she won’t be beat.”
Ipswich took a 2-1 lead at the halftime as Ziegler added the final goal midway through the second half. Maddie Howe recorded an assist, while Devin Smith created a lot of scoring opportunities for the Tigers. Ipswich will play St. Mary’s in the next round at Woburn High School on Friday at 3:30 p.m.
Watertown 4, Ipswich 1: The 14th seeded Tigers (9-7-4) took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but couldn’t contain the second half power of Watertown in the Division 3 quarterfinals contest.
Pentucket 1, Salem 0: The Witches finished their season at 12-5-3 at the hands of No. 1 seeded Pentucket. Salem edged out Lynn Classical 1-0 in the previous round, but were scoreless against the Sachems.
Weston 3, Bishop Fenwick 0: The No. 3 seeded Crusaders (17-5) fell in straight sets to sixth seeded Weston, 25-22, 28-26, 25-17. Junior Kate Lipka recorded 10 kills and three blocks, Jen Crovo finished with 15 digs, Tessa McLaughlin had 10 assists and Jess Ywuc added three kills and three blocks.
“Our energy was very high,” said head coach Adam DeBaggis. “I just don’t think we were totally ready for them. We got down on ourselves early on and the little momentum we did have, we couldn’t keep it going.”
