COUNTDOWN TO KICKOFF: 14 Days What's the most underrated football venue in the area?

The Salem News

---- — Note: Each day before the high school football season begins the Salem News sports staff will discuss a different topic as we Countdown to Kickoff.

What's the most underrated football venue in the area?

PHIL STACEY: Bertram Field, Salem

Still one of the crown jewels of the North Shore — and will look even better after a makeover this fall.

MATT JENKINS: Walt Roberts Field, Masconomet

Field is usually in good condition and atmosphere is always festive there on Friday nights.

MATT WILLIAMS: Blocksidge Field, Swampscott.

Sure, there’s no track, no field turf and the stands are older. But the place has a homey atmosphere, a nice sea breeze and the unique look of the homes on the upper hills overlooking the stadium.

JEAN DePLACIDO: Donaldson Stadium, Bishop Fenwick

Home of the Crusaders has a lot of subtle touches.

GIANNA ADDARIO: Hamilton-Wenham

There aren’t any lights for a Friday night game, but there are few places better to spend a Saturday afternoon.

DAN HARRISON: Barry Field, North Shore Tech

Easy to get to; the sound system is clear; the concession stand is top notch; and you get to watch some great football.
