North Shore girls cross country 2013 team-by-team capsules


Last year’s record: 6-1

Coach: Dave Jellerson (19th year)

Runners to watch: Nicole Demars, Sr., Capt.; Keely Higgins, Sr., Capt.; Savannah Page, Sr., Capt.; Julianna Wesley, Jr.; Melissa Lubas, Soph.; Maeve Monahan, Jr.; Sarah Welch, Soph.

Season outlook: “We’ll do well if everybody did their summer workouts. We’re expecting big things from our senior captains and have some good looking young girls coming along.”


Last year’s record: 4-3

Coach: Steve Czarnecki (10th year)

Runners to watch: Arianna Maida, Sr., Capt.; Meghan Clancy, Jr.; Kaitlyn Constantino, Jr.; Sydney Packard, Soph.; Sam Claveau, Jr.; Mary Pasquale, Jr.

Season outlook: “This will be a very interesting season. We’ve added some new pieces, but all the girls are experienced distance runners, although this is the first cross country season for some. Maida will be looking to make her fourth trip to All-States.”


Last year’s record: 5-2

Coach: John Norris (18th year)

Runners to watch: Ali Barker, Sr., Capt.; Jessica Driscoll, Sr., Capt.; Catalina Dominick, Jr.

Season outlook: “We have some solid returnees and are pretty strong up top. The league is very tough, especially Marblehead, Peabody and Beverly. If anybody goes undefeated this year, they will absolutely be a state level team.”


Last year’s record: 10-0

Coach: Steve Sawyer (35th year)

Runners to watch: Emily Horgan, Sr.; Kathy Chiu, Sr.; Emily Weigand, Jr.; Meg McWhirter, Jr.; Iela Ciegenhals, Sr.; Jeanine Zheng, Soph.; Meghan Stone, Soph.

Season outlook: “We have almost 50 girls out, and from what I’ve seen they had a very good summer training. We’re expecting another strong season.”


Last year’s record: 6-4

Coach: Steve Bartholomew (2nd year)

Runners to watch: Maggie Brown, Jr., Capt.; Annie Zampitella, Jr., Capt.; Maddie Werner, Sr.; Olivia Hammond, Sr.; Brittany Barbarisi, Sr.

Season outlook: “Our goal is to have every individual on the team strive to reach full potential. A team not focused solely on wins and losses, but celebrating and supporting each other as they reach the goals they have set for themselves. We have a great group of returnees and influx of new athletes.”
