Season outlook: “We have good numbers and I’m optimistic for a good season, especially with two excellent freshmen in McPherson and Muise along with Wood, a junior who ran really well last season. Scott and Heckman will be counted on for leadership.”

BISHOP FENWICK

Last year’s record: 7-1

Coach: Steve Czarnecki (10th year)

Runners to watch: Eric Leohle, Sr., Capt.; Nick Tambini, Sr., Capt.; Sean Cray, Sr.; Jim DiGiulio, Jr.; Matt Loehle, Jr.; Billy Noftle, Sr.

Season outlook: “We have a veteran group back with a lot of experience. They’ve been working hard, and the league is wide open this year.”

DANVERS

Coach: John Norris (18th year)

Runners to watch: James Bailey, Sr., Capt.; Ryan Heber, Sr., Capt.; Kevin Hebert, Jr.

Season outlook: “We have some new runners who may provide us with depth. We’ll be competitive.”

HAMILTON-WENHAM

Last year’s record: 7-3

Coach: Steve Sawyer (35th year)

Runners to watch: Matt Gillis, Sr.; Michael Allara, Jr.; Jack Blatchford, Jr.; Sam Erhard, Jr.; Alex MacDonald, Sr.; Lucas Cruz Nascimento, Sr.; Riley Frackelton, Sr.

Season outlook: “We have a lot back, and they had a good summer training. There’s talent; we should be competitive.”

IPSWICH

Last year’s record: 6-4

Coach: Matt Simms (10th year)

Runners to watch: Michael Riddle, Sr., Capt.; Michael Connor, Sr., Luke Sirois, Jr.; Connor Fitzpatrick, Sr.; Justin Bergner, Soph.

Season outlook: “Five of our top six runners are back, including CAL Small Runner of the Year (Riddle); we’re looking to be competitive (and) repeat as CAL Small champions.”

MARBLEHEAD

Last year’s record: 5-2

Coach: Brian Heenan (13th year)

Runners to watch: Conrad Rousseau, Sr., Capt.; Nick Carr, Sr.; Chris Rodts, Sr.; Chris Wigglesworth, Sr.; A. J. Ernst, Fr.; Adam Linsky, Fr.

Season outlook: “We hope to continue to compete with the best teams in the conference and the state. Last year we were 4th in Division 4 and 8th in the Division 2 state championship.”

MASCONOMET

Last year’s record: 9-1

Coach: Patrick Mahoney (7th year)

Runners to watch: Harry Kent, Sr., Capt.; Kevin Martin, Sr., Capt.; Matt Mudgett, Jr.; Charlie Gilfeather, Jr.; Danny Cosgrove, Soph.

Season outlook: “This is the youngest team I’ve ever had. Last year we were a senior-laden team, but now have seven of our top 10 runners gone. If we’re going to be competitive the returning runners need to make a big jump and the young ones need to contribute. There will be growing pains.”

NORTH SHORE TECH/ESSEX AGGIE

Last year’s record: 5-5

Coach: Dan Verrington (2nd year)

Runners to watch: Phil Simonton, Sr.; Doug Wilson, Sr.; Rian Dalton, Sr.; Brendon Hurley, Sr.; Mike Tilton, Jr.

Season outlook: “We hope to build on last year’s improvements and should be very competitive with teams in our division.”

PEABODY

PINGREE

Coach: Jim McLaughlin (1st year)

Runners to watch: Adam Gerber, Sr., Capt.; Evan Maravelis, Soph.; Jake Chase, Jr., Alex Bernardi, Jr., Kyle Skelton, Sr.

Season outlook: “The team is strong with a lot of returning runners who worked hard over the summer. If we remain healthy and add a few key new runners, we should be in the mix to contend for the league title.”

ST. JOHN'S PREP

Last year’s record: 4-0

Coach: John Boyle (5th year)

Runners to watch: Liam Dow, Sr.; Tim Loehner, Sr.; Colin Monahan, Sr.; Josh Raposa, Jr.; Scott Atwood, Sr.; Luke Bugler, Soph.

Season outlook: “We think we should be able to repeat as Catholic Conference champions. Last year we were 4th at All-States and hope to at least match that.”

SALEM

Last year’s record: 3-4

Coach: Graeme Marcoux (2nd year)

Runners to watch: Kevin Clyne, Sr., Capt.; Annand Patel, Jr., Capt.; Shawn Small, Fr.

Season outlook: “Our goals are to gain more experience as a team and continue to strengthen everyone’s running. We have many returning underclassmen and have grown significantly as a team, having added many new people.”

SWAMPSCOTT

Last year’s record: 4-3

Coach: Jeff Bartlett (3rd year)
