FIELD HOCKEY

Masconomet 5, Newburyport 0: Maddie Lafreniere had a hat trick for the Chieftains (3-0), while Julianna Costa and Maddie Doyle also had goals. Kylie Currier got the shutout, while Belle Ives finished with a pair of assists.

Manchester Essex 2, Ipswich 1: Senior forward Brittany Smith and junior Meghan Conway each scored a goal in the Hornets’ (2-0-1) win.

CROSS COUNTRY

NST/Essex Aggie splits tri-meet: The Bulldogs move to 1-1 on the season after falling to Lawrence (22-55), but defeated Mystic Valley (55-65). Phil Simonton finished third overall (18:03), while Mike Tilton came in sixth (19:09) and Doug Wilson came in at 19:59, good for ninth.

WOMEN’S FIELD HOCKEY

Salem State 5, sALVE rEGINA 3: Lauren Pazdziorny of Middleton scored four goals to power the Vikings to their first victory of the season. Beverly’s Katie Pietrini added a goal of her own for Salem State (1-2).

WOMEN’S TENNIS

Curry 8, Salem State 1: The Vikings dropped their season opener at home, with Hillary Gustafson earning the lone win at No. 5 singles.
