Gordon swept by Western New England: The Scots (16-19) were swept in Springfield, 12-2 and 8-2. The hosts scored eight runs in the second inning of Game 1 as Gordon managed just a sacrifice fly by Cody Davey and an RBI groundout from Brian Harrington. In addition, Eric Rinaldi added a pair of hits. Alex Potocki had two hits for Gordon in the nightcap, with Davey and Harrington again knocking in the runs with RBI singles.
Beverly performs at D2 relays: Beverly saw Nicole Demars, Keely Higgins, Alli Sheehan and Jessica Goodall claim fourth place in the 4x800 relay (10:18.8) at the Division 2 state relay meet in Marlborough. Fenwick eighth: The Crusaders were eighth as a team in the latest scoring available at Division 4 state relays held in Abington. The Crusaders were led by the second overall shot put relay of Maggie Lepley, Caroline Claveau and Emma Harrington, who threw a combined 88-4. The distance medley of Hannah Smith, Andrea Klose, Sydney Packard and Arianna Maida was third in 13:36, Fenwick’s 4x200 was sixth in 1:54, the 4x400 was sixth in 4:31 and the javelin was sixth throwing 239-4.
Hamilton-Wenham places third: The Generals finished with 46.5 points to place third behind Weston and Ursuline Academy in the Division 4 state relays. The quartet of Emily Horgan, Sarah Duffy, Meg Blatchford and Emily Weigand took first in the 4x800 (9:55) and placed second in the 4xmile (21:58).
Vanessa Morris, Emma Beane, Maddy Bukkhegyi and Kristen Heffernan took second in the 4x100 (52.4) for the Generals. Maggie Abbott, Maddy Lanois and Shannon Wallace also took second in the pole vault. Hamilton-Wenham added fourth-place finishes in the shuttle hurdles and high jump, fifth-place finishes in the 4x200, triple jump and javelin, and a sixth in the discus.
