Area roundup: Fenwick baseball edges out Arlington Catholic

Bishop Fenwick 3, Arl. Catholic 2: The Crusaders scored three times in the top of the seventh and senior Brian Burke nailed down the save as Fenwick (8-2) handed the Cougars their first CCL loss. Burke doubled in the seventh to drive in pinch runner Robbie Carillo and then scored on a wild throw. Mike Campatelli and Jhon Oliveira followed with hits as Fenwick turned a 1-0 hole into a 3-1 lead. James Dellisola earned the win by throwing a scoreless sixth and Andrew Lessard allowed just one run and struck out five over five innings. Gianni Esposito had two hits for the Crusaders and Carillo, Will Vigneron and Matt Renzulli each had their first varsity hits in a 12-0 win over Worcester North over the weekend.

Beverly 15, Winthrop 1: Pitcher Eric Messina went through five innings of no-hit ball as the Panthers (7-3) gave up just one hit in the game. Left fielder Luke McDonald finished 3-for-4 with homer and two RBI and shortstop Anthony DiOrio was 2-for-4 with five RBI and a grand slam.

St. John’s Prep 3, Cambridge 1: The Eagles (11-2) won 25-22, 25-15, 22-25, 26-24 to knock off previously unbeaten and top-ranked defending state champ Cambridge. Senior middle hitter Eric O’Connor led the way with 13 kills and 11 blocks.

WINTHROP 2, BEVERLY 1: Kate Silvestri allowed just six hits and struck out eight in a losing effort for the Panthers (3-5). Hannah Silvestri, Emily Pitman and Meaghan McLaughlin all went 1-for-3 offensively for Beverly, with McLaughlin having a terrific game at catcher to boot.

North Shore Tech/Essex Aggie 8, Minuteman 0: Kaylin Countie (3 innings, 5 K) and Kaera Wyse (4 ip, 9 K) combined on a one-hitter as the Bulldogs raised their record to 6-3. Christine Cafisco (3 RBI), Dianna Leblanc, Emma Bouchard, Katlyn Geurin (RBI) and Krystal Dion (RBI) each had two hits for the winners.

Peabody 14, Gloucester 1: Sophomore ace Shelbi Wilson gave up just three hits, two walks, while striking out three batters for the Tanners (7-1). Mikayla Wallace went 2-for-5 with a grand slam, Taylor Dabney finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and Michelle McHugh went 2-for-3 and two RBI.
