Area roundup: Fenwick baseball edges out Arlington Catholic

Marblehead 5, Lynn English 3: McKenna Barret went 2-for-4 on the day and knocked in a run for the Magicians (5-4). Emily Messinger had solo homer and left fielder Allison Kapolo made shoe string catch and threw out the runner on second base to end the game. Michaela LeBlanc pitched well and kept control of the game on the mound.

Arlington Catholic 9, Bishop Fenwick 7: The Crusaders (6-6) made some errors in the field, but had a chance to get back in the game in the seventh, only to leave some base runners stranded. Gianna Piazzno went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a RBI, junior first baseman Charlotte Powers hit 1-for-1 with two RBI in the loss.

Newburyport 8, Manchester Essex 1: Shortstop Rachel Gallagher had two doubles on the day, as the Hornets drop to 1-6 overall.

Ipswich 14, masconomet 12: Sophomore Ellie Swenson scored a career high eight goals as the Tigers (5-2) outlasted Masco. Goalie Eliza Statile, another sophomore, stopped 15 shots in the win, while senior captain Natalie Soliozy had three goals and an assist. Brigid O’Flynn had a goal and three assists; Sophie Clark contributed a goal and an assist; Olivia Moutevelis scored once; and D-wing Courtney Long had a terrific game on defense while only allowing two shots.

LOWELL CATHOLIC 17, NORTH SHORE TECH/ESSEX AGGIE 9: Senior captain Grace McNally scored five goals, but it wasn’t enough as NST/EA fell to 3-7. Fellow senior captains Madison Overholt finished with three goals while Courtney Tanaro also scored. Kayla Morgan, the team’s fourth senior captain, had a strong game at midfield as well, and her sister, senior Kylie Morgan, made 13 saves in goal.

Lynnfield 13, Swampscott 7: Alexa Goldman and Gillian Trask each had three goals and freshman goalie Katie Papele stopped 15 shots, but it wasn’t enough as the Big Blue dropped to 1-8. Bridget Lawless also scored and Lauren Sullivan contributed an assist for Swampscott.
