Peabody lacrosse ace Keifer Heckman and Bishop Fenwick tennis captain Demi Velonis have been chosen as the Male and Female Moynihan Student-Athletes of the Month for April.
Heckman, a senior and four-year contributor, recently broke Peabody’s all-time scoring mark in boys lacrosse. The Northeastern Conference scoring leader has 78 points this season (45 goals, 33 assists) and has 238 points in his career, passing the previous mark held by Tanner assistant coach Greg Welch (225).
Carrying a 3.1 grade point average, Heckman is a student leader for a group advocating responsible driving at Peabody High and is a member of Above the Influence. He has also volunteered to help build playground in the Tanner City.
Velonis, a senior, carries a 4.13 grade point average and ranks among the top 20th percentile of Bishop Fenwick’s senior class. She’s one of the top singles players for the Crusaders, who are enjoying a strong season at 9-3.
Coach Mark Stackhouse called Velonis “the ultimate teammate. A tremendous leader that the underclassmen look to with such respect as a leader, friend and even coach.”
Velonis was one of the driving forces behind starting Fenwick’s varsity girls hockey team. She has also been dedicated to raising money for cancer research, and undertook a project to hand paint pill boxes and give them to patients in need.
