Hamilton-Wenham 3, Saugus 1: Junior middle hitter Maddie O’Connor had eight aces and senior libero Leah Walsh had two aces as the Generals used solid serving to win 25-7, 20-25, 25-18, 25-18.

NST/Essex Aggie 3, Chelsea 1: The Bulldogs (1-2) earned their first win of the season, behind impressive play from Rachael Langone (served 20 out of 21 balls) and Jassiel Abreau had nine kills.

Greater Lowell 8, Nst/Essex AGgie 0: Tom Gallione and Sam Cueva both played well at center-mid for the Bulldogs (0-2).

South Shore Charter 3, Salem Academy 0: Sammy Benoit and Sal Martinez each played well for Salem Academy (0-2).

Salem Academy 6, South Shore Charter 1: Laura Fawin scored three goals and Schannelle Camah added a pair as Salem Academy picked up its first win. Sydney Moreno also scored for the Navigators (1-1-1).

agateHed:GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY

Beverly 17, Swampscott 45: Beverly took four of the top five spots and eight of the top 10 as it rolled in its opener. Nicole Demars, Abby Walsh and Juliana Wesley grabbed the top three spots for the Panthers while Maeve Monahan and Keely Higgins finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

Isabella Kornitsky was the Big Blue’s top finisher in fourth (18:05) while Alyssa Mauriello was eighth in 19:06.

Danvers 15, Salem 50: The Falcons took the top five spots in their opening meet of the season as Catalina Dominick won in 19:45. Dominick was followed by Alison Barker (22:48), Jessica Driscoll (23:56), Payton Johnson (24:20) and Lindsay MacInnis (24:53).

agateHed:BOYS CROSS COUNTRY

Marblehead 17, Lynn English 46: Conrad Rosseau (18:32), Chris Rodts (18:36) and Adam Linksy (18:37) were the top three finishers on the 2.9 mile course as the Magicians (1-0) began the season with a win.

Swampscott 25, Beverly 30: Overall race winner Matt Mahoney (14:40) helped the Big Blue open with a win. The Panthers grabbed the second and third spots but Bennett Smith (15:45), Marco Scibelli (15:48) and Robbie McLaughlin (16:01) filled out the top six for Swampscott.
