The Big Blue (0-2-1) got a strong performance off the bench from sophomore mid Isabelle Fillenworth.
Pingree 3, Berwick 0: Freshman Anna Caneb of Manchester scored two goals to power Pingree to victory in its season opener. Elizia Mead also scored for the winners; Jill Witwicki had a pair of assists and Kelsey Dion earned the shutout in goal, making five saves. Nicole Giannino, a freshman midfield from Boxford, had a terrific varsity debut for Pingree as well.

Hamilton-Wenham sweeps: Senior captain Matt Gillis won the race easily in a time of 16:31 to power the Generals (2-1) to victories over Amesbury, 19-39, and Ipswich, 19-44. Michael Allara finished third (17:47), John Blatchford took fourth (17:49), Jack Gordeau placed sixth (17:57) and Charles Cring was ninth (18:12).
Peabody 17, Gloucester 47: Seniors Drew Fossa, Ben Braz and junior Alex Greco ran together and finished as a pack in 15:28 to lead Peabody to an impressive opening day win. Freshman Marcelo Rocha was fifth with a time of 15:49.
Masco takes a pair: Freshman Kyle Faddis was the overall winner in 18:08 as Masconomet took down Georgetown (20-41) and Lynnfield (19-40) in a tri-meet at Bradley Palmer. Charlie Gilefeather, Danny Cosgrove and Baxter Demers finished fourth, fifth and sixth for the Chieftains (3-0).
St. John’s Prep 222, Catholic Memorial 246: The Eagles improved to 2-1 led by sophomore Steven DeLisio, who birdied holes 6, 7 and 8 to finish with a 1-under 34 at Kernwood Country Club in Salem. Senior Justin Serowik shot a 1-over 36 while sophomore James Turner had a 2-over 37.
North Reading 138, Hamilton-Wenham 135: No. 1 player Scott Hughes, a junior, shot a 2-under 34 at Myopia, good for 40 points, but the Generals fell to 1-1 after a close setback. Cole Farnham added 26 points to the cause while Mike Gillis finished with 25 and Harrison O’Brien 20.
Ipswich 137, Masconomet 120: Jon O’Brien led the Tigers (2-1) with 27 points in a close Cape Ann League match at Ipswich Country Club. Austin Rubino, Kyle Mulkerin and freshman Tomas Forman each had 23 points for Ipswich while Masco (1-1) got 23 points from Paul O’Kelly and a 21-point effort from Joe Klingensmith.
