Friday's area roundup: Prep soccer earns first shutout of the season

St. John’s Prep 3, St. John’s Shrewsbury 0: Junior keeper Zach Rowell made two saves for his first ever varsity shutout and the Eagles’ first shutout of the season. Matt Chilton, Greg French and Anthony Vigliotta did the scoring for the Prep (3-1). Center back Cory Lang and defender Brendan Beuchert played outstanding in the backfield.

Salem 1, Lynn English 1: Nathan Russell scored midway through the first half off an assist from Connor Duncan to give the Witches a 1-0 lead. With just over 15 minutes left in the game, Lynn English scored to tie it. Salem’s back at it today against Fenwick.

Salem Academy 2, Boston Prep: John Mahoney and Joe Phongsybong netted the goals in Salem Academy’s first win of the season.


Salem Academy 4, Boston Prep 0: Laura Sawin, Liz Harten, Channelle Camah and Hannah MaGee each scored in the Navigators’ (2-0-1) victory.


Newburyport 1, Hamilton-Wenham 0: Junior Maggie Burns played well in the midfield as Newburyport score with three minutes left to hand the Generals their second loss of the season.

Westford Academy 7, Bishop Fenwick 2: Erinn Johnson and Erin Clancey scored for the Crusaders (4-1) in their first loss of the season. Kathleen Moran, Maura Bunson, Jackie Hart and Natalie Moore performed well in the loss.


SALEM 3, HAMILTON-WENHAM 2: The Witches improve to 2-3 overall after taking down the Generals 25-7, 23-25, 24-26, 25-21, 15-12. Salem was led offensively by Codey Homen with 10 kills and Meaghan Zipper (10 aces).

Endicott 3, MIT 0: For the first time in program history, the Gulls (3-6) were able to take down the MIT in a clean sweep, 28-16, 25-19 , 25-19. Callie Dolan recorded 12 kills, freshman Erika Trudon, starting in her second match at libero, led the defense with 10 digs as Alleigh VandeMerkt chipped in with 27 assists.
