Tramontozzi named Salem State volleyball coach

The next era of volleyball at Salem State University is set to begin, as Bruno Tramontozzi takes over as head coach, the school announced last week.

Tramontozzi spent the last three years as coach of the Harvard University club team and spent 12 years as a player-coach with the Boston Volleyball Association. He takes over for Denna Warner, who stepped down after leading the Lady Vikings to a 5-20 record in 2010.

"I'm very excited to be working with the Salem State women's team, and I look forward to a great year. There are some strong teams in our league, and we've got a lot of work to do in order to have a successful year," Tramontozzi said in a school news release.

"My goal this season is to build upon the foundation that coach Warner built, and to continue to move the team forward."

A Beverly native, Tramontozzi helped develop more than 200 college players at BVA and has played on the Men's AVP Pro Beach Tour.

The Lady Vikings return all but one player from last year's team and have a pair of All-MASCAC honorees back. Outside hitter Rachel Murphy was All-MASCAC second team as a junior after leading SSU in kills and aces. Setter Jazmin Barrows, who was All-MASCAC as both a freshman and junior, led the Lady Vikings in assists with 311.
