Friday's roundup: Navs split double dip

The Salem News

---- — Five runs proved to be the magic number yesterday, as both North Shore and Pittsfield had five run innings in splitting a doubleheader yesterday.

The Navs (24-21) rallied to win the nightcap, which was delayed more than an hour by rain, 9-3 after falling in game one, 7-3.

Connor Biggio, Tim Hendricks and Alex Markakis each drove in a pair of runs to lead North Shore in the victory. Mick Terzi worked around six walks and allowed just two runs with four strikeouts.

Hamilton-Wenham 13, Salem 1: The Generals took Game 1 of the best-of-3 playoff series. Salem pitching issues seven walks and all seven of those came around to score as Hamilton-Wenham took advantage. Timmy Ryan and Cody Mercier (two doubled) each had a pair of hits for Salem, which had six hits in all. The teams meet for Game 2 at Patton Park today (5). If Salem wins, they’d play Game 3 at Palmer’s Cove tomorrow, and H-W advances to the final with a victory.
