Sharaf in the hunt at Public Links Championship

The Salem News

---- — The first round of the Massachusetts Golf Association Public Links Championship is in the books and Justin Sharaf is in the hunt.

Sharaf, who plays out of The Meadow at Peabody, shot a 1-over par 73 at Glen Ellen Country Club in Millis yesterday and is tied for eighth, four shots off the lead.

Sharaf started on the back nine and was 1-under par when he made the turn. Three bogies on his final nine holes put him over par for the day.

He birdied the 8th, 13th, and 16th holes.

Dennis Pines’ Kevin Carey and Glen Ellen Country Club’s Ryan Clancy are in a tie for the lead at 3-under par with one round to play.

Far Corner Golf Club’s Ben Bridgeo was the only other local to make the cut. Bridgeo shot a 4-over par 76 and is tied for 21st.
