BOYS BASKETBALL
The Ipswich boys basketball team now has proof that it has come a long way since the beginning of the season.
The Tigers scored a revenge win last night, dropping Amesbury 70-54.
Amesbury defeated Ipswich in overtime in the first game of the season.
"It's definitely a nice win for us. It give us some confidence going into the next portion of the season," Ipswich coach Alan Laroche said. "We have some very competitive games coming up and I think they're games we can get. We can win games and this gives us confidence going forward."
Erik Fyrer led the Tigers' charge with 21 points and Dan O'Flynn added 18 to help Ipswich improve to 3-9. Brenden Gallagher chipped in with 12 points, while Pat Curran and Louis Galanis played well defensively.
Pingree 58. Governor's Academy 51: Sophomore point guard Johnny Spears got Pingree started quickly and finished with 25 points and 11 assists as the Highlanders held on for a big win on the road. Sophomore Connor Reardon scored 14 points and 12 rebounds and senior Isaac Carp added 14 points for Pingree (10-3)
Senior Brandon Ashe drew praise from his coaches after locking down Governor's top scorer Duncan Robinson, limiting him to just seven points.
Masconomet 53, North reading 44: Adam Bramanti scored 21 points and hit some big shots down the stretch to help the Chieftains (8-5) hold on for a victory. Alex Brown and Ben Panunzio each chipped in 11 points and Chris Schleer provided a spark off the bench for Masco.
Hamilton-Wenham 68, Triton 47: Freshman forward Jimmy Campbell had his best game, producing 16 points and 11 rebounds in the Generals' win. Shane Jenkins also hit double figures with 10, while Jake Lindland (8 points, 5 assists) and James Foye (9 points, 5 assists) also played well for Hamilton-Wenham (9-3).
Danvers 56, Revere 37: George Merry had another outstanding all-around game for the Falcons with 19 points, 11 rebounds and seven blocks. Junior guard Eric Martin added 12 points, five assists and four steals for Danvers, which improved to 11-1.
Swampscott 55, Salem 53: The Witches started slow, falling behind 15-3 after one quarter, and couldn't fully recover. Christian Dunston had 18 points, six assists and five rebounds, and Marvin Baez added 12 points and five rebounds. Davonte Holloway also played well for Salem (6-5) with eight points and five rebounds.
Mike Walsh had 23 points to lead Swampscott.
North Shore Tech/Aggie 64, Northeast 57: Freshman point guard Trace Schaejbe had ten assists and helped the Bulldogs (4-8) limit turnovers in a crucial league win. Jordan Mendez poured in 21 points, including five three-pointers, and Elijah Alfred was huge inside with 14 points and 18 rebounds.
Peabody 64, Gloucester 47: Senior Stephen Girolamo was red hot from downtown, knocking down eight treys and scoring a season-high 26 points to lead the Tanners (7-6). Jason Hiou added 12 points five rebounds and five assists and Miguel Andino had 10 points and five rebounds.
Arlington catholic 62, Bishop Fenwick 44: Rishad Khan De Silva grabbed 10 rebounds to go along with nine points and seven assists in the Crusaders' losing effort. Ben Maxner was aggressive on the glass, grabbing 12 rebounds and chipped in with eight points.
Marblehead 62, Lynn English 49: For the first time all season, the Magicians (4-8) had three starters finish in double figures. Phil Coughlin poured in 18 points and eight rebounds, Jeff Peras also with eight boards had 17 points and Rudy Mukania finished with 13 points and five rebounds.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Ipswich 47, Amesbury 28: Masey Zegarowski had 10 steals as the Tigers (11-3) amped up the pressure and held Amesbury to just two points in the third quarter and 10 in the second half. Julia Davis had a double-double with 15 points and 15 boards, Zegarowski scored 12 and Shannon McFayden contributed five boards.
Revere 45, Danvers 44: The Falcons (3-10) led throughout the evening but couldn't hang on in the fourth quarter on the road. Sophomore Emily McNulty had a breakout game with 15 points and seven rebounds and Kasey Sherry scored 12 points.
Beverly 44, Winthrop 36: Becca Moriarty had a team high 17 points to lead the Panthers to their second win of the season. Moriarty also had eight steals, while Andrea Zelano finished with 16 points and in points.
Arlington CAtholic 52, Bishop Fenwick 36: An explosive 20 point third quarter by Arlington Catholic ended any chance of a Crusader comeback. Annette Ruggiero was Fenwick's (6-8) leading scorer with 10 points and three steals.
Hamilton-wenham 53, Triton 24: Sophomore guard Haley Willis drained four 3-pointers to power the host Generals to their fifth win of the season. Willis finished with a team high 17 points, while Casandra Fibbe added 12 points.
Gloucester 43, Peabody 38: The Tanners (4-8) cut a 12 point deficit to five, but couldn't come any closer in last night's home loss. Sophomore center Carolyn Scacchi was Peabody's leading scorer with 13 points.
