Salem junior point guard Christian Dunston was named co-Most Valuable Player of the Northeastern Conference North when the boys and girls basketball league all-stars were announced yesterday.
Dunston, who has averaged over 15 points per game this season, will share the award with Lynn English senior center Keandre Stanton.
Joining Dunston on the NEC North All-Star roster is teammate and fellow junior guard Marvin Baez, as well as Peabody's Mike Gould and Steve Girolamo, and Beverly's Chris Keaton, Cam Rogers and Zach Zigelbaum.
Fred Hogan (Lynn English), Moise Builou (Lynn Classical), Uche Nwokeji (Lynn Classical) and Chris Palladino (Revere) round out the team.
Beverly's Scott Lewis was named Coach of the Year for the North, while Revere took home the Sportsmanship Award.
Danvers placed four players on the South All-Star team. Senior George Merry and juniors Nick McKenna, Nick Bates and Eric Martin represent the Falcons, while Swampscott seniors Mike Walsh and A.J. Baker were also selected. Senior Phil Coughlin was Marblehead's only representative.
Winthrop's Quinton Dale was named the South MVP and Vikings' coach Dave Brown took home Coach of the year honors. Joe D'Amore and Joshawa Babb of Winthrop were also selected.
Curtis Casella (Saugus), Selim Omerovic (Saugus), and Jason Vizena (Gloucester) complete the South roster. Saugus earned the Sportsmanship Award.
On the girls side, Salem's John Fortunato and Swampscott's Jack Hughes were named Coach of the Year for their respective divisions. Fortunato took home the hardware in the North with his players Alix Bryant and Holbrook Phelan earning all-star status. Peabody's Carolyn Scacchi and Beverly's Becca Moriarty were also selected, and Peabody earned the Sportmanship Award.
Catherine Stinson of Lynn English was named the North MVP with teammates Diondra Woumn, Deidra Newson and Taylor Newhall being recognized as all-stars.
Franki Galeazzi (Lynn Classical), Monta Connolly (Lynn Classical), Kristin Lauria (Lynn Classical), Caitlyn Caramello (Revere) and Gena Restiano (Revere) were also named all-stars.
Hughes won the coaching honor for the South with his players Ara Talkov, Nikki Laskaris and Caroline Murphy being selected as all-stars. Marblehead's Emily Freedland and Kathryn DiGiammarino, and Danvers' Kasey Sherry were also named to the team.
Gloucester's Heather Cain was named the South MVP with teammate Audrey Knowlton, Saugus' Gabby Cogliano, Allyssa Furtado and Norma Waggett, and Winthrop's Ashelyne Babb filling out the rest of the roster.
Danvers and Saugus shared the Sportsmanship Award.
