Thanksgiving Football: North Andover (5-5) at Masconomet (6-4)

The Salem News

---- — NORTH ANDOVER (5-5) at MASCONOMET (6-4)

Where: Bunker Stadium in Topsfield, 10 a.m.

All-Time Series: North Andover leads, 30-16-1 (Thanksgiving series began in 1975, which North Andover also leads, 25-12-1)

Key to victory for Masconomet: The Chieftains have a number of injured players, including the team’s two leading ballcarriers in seniors Mike Tivinis (501 yards) and Mackenzie Cashin (299 yards), so it’s important for them to establish the run game early on behind players like Gavin Monagle, Austin Cashin, Troy Bunker and even quarterback Roby Deschenes.

Key to victory for North Andover: Attack the hosts early on and maintain the lead. The Knights lost a wild game on enemy turf two Thanksgivings ago when Masconomet stormed back to win, and they can’t let that happen again if they get an early lead. Scoring first will give them needed confidence.

Intangibles: Deschenes will play just his second game as the starting quarterback after earning a win in his first career start under center against Gloucester earlier this month. Look for another big performance from him tomorrow.

Did You Know?: Dominated by their rivals for much of their Thanksgiving rivalry, Masconomet has turned the tide over the last decade, posting seven wins in the last 10 meetings.
