The Salem State hockey team watched a three-goal lead slip away on the road last night, as Southern Maine stormed back to take a 6-5 decision in overtime.
The Huskies’ Angelo Vrachnas scored at 13:33 of the third to knot the score, then scored again 49 seconds into overtime to give Southern Maine (4-3) the win.
The Vikings (3-3) scored three times in a three minute span in the second period to take the lead. Eric Defelice, Tanner Fahlstedt and Cam Banwell had the goals in that sequence, while John Needham had SSU’s other two scores.
Alex Minter had a pair of assists for Salem and Andrew Bucci earned his first helper of the year. Goalie Ryan Sutliffe made 30 saves and suffered his first loss of the season.
