Through nine games this season, St. John’s Prep running back Johnny Thomas has recorded an area-high 1,417 yards rushing on 153 attempts and 12 touchdowns. The Catholic Conference recently announced that Thomas received Offensive Player of the Year honors for his stellar numbers during his junior season.
Thomas has run for 100 yards or more in every game this season besides the loss against Everett, including a 174-yard performance against B.C. High. The Peabody native has posted big numbers all season long for the Eagles (8-1) and will play a major role in the Thanksgiving matchup against Xaverian.
Along with Thomas, eight other Prep players were named to the All Conference Team: senior Alex Moore (RB/DB), senior Lucas Bavaro (WR/LB), senior James Fagan (C), senior Tucker Mathers (DE), senior Anthony Bongiorno (TE/DE), senior Gerald Kahari (WR/DB), junior Sean Smerczynski (LB) and senior Corey Jean-Jacques (DT).
Thomas, Moore and Bavaro were also nominated for The Massachusetts High School Football Coaches’ Association “Super 26” All-State Team.
