---- — Sean Stellato will be inducted into the National Italian-American Sports Hall of Fame, one of three athletes selected from New England. The ceremony will take place in Quincy on March 9, 2013.

For the former football and basketball star at Salem High, this honor is important not only for him but his entire family.

“My grandfather came to Ellis Island with a suitcase,” said Stellato. “He was a shoe cobbler and paved the way for my family. He worked hard to give us a chance to attain our goals. Family is everything for me, and I am very excited about this honor. It is the first hall of fame for me.”

Stellato will be inducted along with former New England Patriot player Joe Andruzzi and Olympic gymnast Alicia Sacramone.

“I’m going in with two highly respected athletes,” said Stellato, who is an NFL player agent, whose clients include Kyle Arrington and Kyle Love of the Patriots, Gary Guyton of Miami, and Isaac Redman of the Steelers among others. “Rocky Marciano, Phil Esposito, Tony DeMarco, Scott Pioli, and Mark Bavaro are members of the Italian Hall of Fame. I am so honored to be in that group.”

Stellato set six football records while playing for the Witches and helped lead them to the Super Bowl in 1994. He is best remembered as the quarterback who threw a 40-yard TD pass with no time left on the clock to beat Winthrop. He was also one of the team’s leading scorer on the 25-0 Witches basketball state champion team in ‘95 before attending The Gunnery prep school for a year where he captured MVP honors in both football and basketball.

He went on to be the leading receiver at Marist College in 2000 and 2001 and a MAAC All Academic. Stellato played in the Arena League for two years, and wrote a novel called “ 4th and Long: The Odds” about his trials as an overachiever, who was always told he was too small.

He and his wife Krista have three young daughters named Gianna, Sophia-Bella, and Giulietta. He finds time in his busy schedule to give back to the community through many events for charity.

“It has been an exciting journey at every level, and I still have the passion and drive,” said Stellato. “The flame is even brighter now.”
