2012 Salem News Field Hockey All-Star team

FIELD HOCKEY PLAYER OF THE YEAR

NICOLE WOODS

Beverly Junior

Beverly head coach Tricia Murphy has so much respect for Nicole Woods that she named the midfielder a captain last year when Woods was only a sophomore.

This past season as a junior captain, Woods was the pivotal piece in Beverly’s 16-1-1 campaign that saw the Panthers capture their fifth straight Northeastern Conference championship.

A Northeastern Conference all-star, Woods makes everything go for the Panthers. She can find the back of the cage when she needs to, scoring 11 goals this season including a pair in the Panthers 2-1 win over Peabody. But where Woods is truly gifted is in her ability to facilitate play and set up her teammates. She averaged over an assist a game, with 21 total.

Field hockey is a major part of Woods’ life, as she plays throughout most of the offseason for the Northeast Elite field hockey team. Her maturity and ever-growing talent led her to make the decision to play on a 19U team in order to face tougher competition. Over Thanksgiving, Woods traveled to West Palm Beach, Fla., for USA Field Hockey’s National Festival.

A standout in ice hockey and lacrosse as well, Woods will once again be a captain for Beverly next fall.
