2012 Salem News Field Hockey All-Star team



A Northeastern Conference all-star, Phillips finished the season with four goals and seven assists ... Had the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Saugus, a contest in which she was playing with an injured ankle ... Holds a 3.4 GPA ... Hopes to either dive or play lacrosse in the college ... Played one of the toughest positions at left link in the midfield for Marblehead.


Beverly Senior

Left Wing

Was the leading scorer in the Northeastern Conference for the second straight season after pouring in 27 goals as a senior ... Named to the North squad for the Mass State Field Hockey Coaches Association Best of 60 games ... Named Beverly’s Offensive Player of the Year ... A two-time NEC all-star ... Hopes to major in Early Childhood in college.


Peabody Senior

Center Halfback

Ranks 34th in her class with a 3.67 GPA ... Hopes to play field hockey in college, where she plans to study to be a high school algebra teacher ... Provided the assist on the game-tying goal that sent the Tanners’ playoff game against Newton North into overtime ... A team captain, Rizzo was also the Peabody MVP and was named to the Northeastern Conference all-star squad.


Danvers Senior

Defensive Sweep

Team captain with tremendous knowledge for the game, Romano is one of the few players head coach Barbara Damon says she can talk strategy with ... Was the Falcons’ team MVP ... Was the vocal leader on the Danvers defense, making sure everyone else knew their assignments ...Excels bringing the ball out of her defensive zone.


Pingree Senior


Was the Pingree team MVP the past two seasons ... Named the 2012 Eastern Independent League MVP ... Had 25 goals and 35 assists this fall, including the game-winner in overtime against Governor’s Academy ... Has committed to play at the University of Michigan next fall ... Was a team captain.
