Wednesday's area roundup: Senior laden Salem girls lacrosse opens with win



Danvers 80, Lynn Classical 55: Erin St. Pierre was a triple winner for Danvers (1-0) topping the 400 hurdles, the high hurdles and the high jump. Angela Caldarone won the long jump and the triple jump, Catalina Dominick won the javelin and two mile and Christina Parr won the shot put and the discus.


Endicott 10, Brandeis 4: Corbin Hyde drove in three runs out of the No. 9 spot and Endicott (11-3) scored four in the fifth to pull away from the Judges at home. Zac Poland scattered seven hits and all four runs he allowed were unearned as he improved to 2-0 this spring. Matt Paolo drove in a pair for Endicott and Harry Oringer went 2-for-3 and scored twice.

Salem State 8, UMass Boston 4: The Vikings (11-10) won their fourth straight and climbed over .500 for the first time since March 7 behind three innings of 2-hit relief from Tim Woods. Brett Cahill went 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead Salem’s offense, Matt Burgess had three hits and Ryan Beliveau went 2-for-4 with two RBI.

Gordon drops two: The Scots fell to 7-8 on the year, losing both ends of a double header to Western New England 8-1 and 6-5. Gordon scored five times in the bottom of the seventh but left the tying run on base. Danvers native Joe Olszak had the lone RBI for Gordon while Jesse Amaya, Mark Fitzgerald, Alonzo Martinez and Alex Smith had hits.


Gordon swept: Bishop Fenwick grad Taylor Ahearn threw a 1-hitter to lead Curry over Gordon 7-0 and the Scots fell in the second game of a doubleheader 13-1. Rachel Ryder, Skylar Bareford and Kara Pepper had hits for Gordon in the second game, while Ahearn improved to 8-1 on the bump for Curry this spring.

Endicott rolls: Playing at home for the first time in 2014, Endicott took down Wentworth by a total score of 27-2 with convincing 12-1 and 15-1 wins. Rachel Couto, Jamie Corda and catcher Sam Dibella totaled three RBI and Ipswich’s Kelley Michael was among a host of players with two RBI. Endicott (8-2) won its fourth straight with Meg Donvovan fanning 10 and Nell O’Connor striking out five.


UMass Dartmouth 10, Salem State 7: Goals by Katie Hart and Erin Riley got Salem State (1-5-1) within three but the Corsairs finished the job. Riley had three goals and Kesley Russell totaled three goals and two assists for the Lady Vikings.
