Shea nets win No. 700

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

Salem State women's basketball coach Tim Shea only had to wait one extra day to record the 700th win of his career.

The Lady Vikings held on to beat RPI, 69-66, in the consolation of their tip-off tournament Saturday at Twohig Gymnasium.

Shea — who now owns 700 combined coaching wins between high school and college — and the Vikings suffered a disappointing loss on Friday night to kick off the season.

Senior forward Danielle Jenkins helped Salem State rebound by scoring 28 points in the victory.

"This would be my 700th win? Good players and longevity, as well as good coaches," Shea, now in his 29th year, said about the accomplishment.

Jakoya Wilkins had six assists and two steals, while Brianna Wilson contributed eight points.
