Beverly at Salem Thanksgiving football preview

BEVERLY (6-3) at SALEM (2-8)

at Bertram Field, Salem

10 a.m. start

All-time series record: Beverly leads, 53-49-7

Beverly points scored per game: 22.8 (206 total)

Beverly points allowed per game: 20.1 (181 total)

Leading rusher: Dylan Terry (415 yards, 3 TDs)

Leading passer: Mark Hannable (66-for-112, 1,094 yards, 12 TDs)

Leading receiver: Justin Marrs (29 catches, 568 yards, 8 TDs)

Top points scorer: Justin Marrs (48 points)

Under the radar player: Tony McDonald. The junior defensive end isn't particularly big, but his speed has enabled him to make 10 tackles for loss and collect five sacks. He consistently grades out well on film and is third on the Panthers in total tackles.

Beverly will be in good shape if: It can establish momentum early and keep it going by controlling the football, moving the chains and get first downs. Defensively, they'll want to keep everything in front of them and not allow Salem to break containment.

Beverly will be in trouble if: Salem's core six players can use their speed, stunt and cause problems for the Panthers up front with their blocking schemes and pass protection. The visitors also want to take away Salem's best player, Reyes, and make other players try to beat them.

Salem points scored per game: 8.1 (81 total)

Salem points allowed per game: 16.9 (169 total)

Leading rusher: Brad Skeffington (288 yards, 5 TDs)

Leading passer: Brad Skeffington (59-for-160, 773 yards, 6 TDs)

Leading receiver: Antonio Reyes (15 catches, 293 yards, 5 TDs)

Top points scorer: Antonio Reyes (31 points)

Under the radar player: Edwin Guzman. A 5-foot-8 cornerback, his speed makes up for any lack of height and has picked off five passes this fall. With Beverly likely to throw the ball often, he's a good bet to add to his INT total.

Salem will be in good shape if: It can win the time of possession battle and control the clock. To do so, the Witches must establish their running game from the onset and stop Beverly from doing the same.

Salem will be in trouble if: Beverly jumps out to a big lead early, forcing the Witches to throw the ball to get back into it. The hosts will also be up against it if they have a succession of 3-and-outs; the less time the Panthers have the ball, the better off Salem will be.
