It is hard to believe that after a first place finish in the Division 2 cross country meet and a second place finish at All-States, Swampscott's Lindsay Walsh had another big performance left in the tank.
But the NEC Small Runner of the Year proved just how much endurance she has by taking 12th place overall at the Foot Locker Northeast Regionals at Sunken Meadow State Park in Long Island, NY with a time of 19:05.
"I went in without having any expectations because I knew the field of competition was much greater than any other meet this year," explained the 17-year-old senior. "But I kept an open mind, had enough sleep and ate well before the race, so I felt good.
Walsh described the course as "flat" and "pretty mild" with the exception of a big hill at the 2-mile mark. The 12th place finish is just one of many great accomplishments Walsh has achieved this year along with an undefeated season in the NEC while becoming the Eastern Mass and NEC champion.
"I knew it was the last meet of the season so I wasn't as nervous as I was at the Divisionals or All States and I think that helped a lot. This is just the icing on the cake."
