LITTLE LEAGUE INSTRUCTION
Mike Giardi's Professional Baseball Academy will hold fundamental instruction for Little League players (ages 8-13) from Feb. 15-19 (school vacation week) at the Salem High fieldhouse, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day. HOCKEY
The Beverly Youth Hockey Association is raffling off a pair of Monster Seats for the Winter Classic game on New Year's Day between the Boston Bruins and Philadelphia Flyers. Cost per raffle ticket is $20, with the drawing to be held Wednesday, Dec. 30 at Beverly City Hall. For more information, please contact Russ Hughey at hughey@comcast.net.
BASEBALL
The Merrimack Valley Umpires Association will be holding an umpiring clinic for adult men, women and teenagers (over 16) who want to be trained as certified (patched) baseball umpires on Thursday, Jan. 7 and continue on consecutive Thursdays for the next seven weeks. The Major League Baseball umpire's exam will be administered at the end of the clinic. Clinic sessions will be held from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. at St. Mary's of the Assumption School in Lawrence. BASEBALL, SOFTBALL CLINICS
Extra Innings in Middleton's four-session softball hitting clinic will be held on the following Sundays; Jan. 3, 10, 17 and 24. For girls ages 13-17, the sessions will run from 10-11:30 a.m. For girls ages 7-12, the sessions will run from 11:45 a.m-1:15 p.m.
Meanwhile, the four-session baseball hitting clinic will be held on the following Tuesdays; Jan. 5, 12, 19 and 26. For boys ages 7-12, the sessions will run from 6:15-7:30 p.m. For boys ages 13-17, the sessions will run from 7:45-9:00 p.m.
Additionally, the four-session gold glove defensive baseball clinic will be held on the following Thursdays; Jan. 7, 14, 21 and 28. For boys ages 7-12, the sessions will run from 6:15-7:30 p.m. For boys ages 13-17, the sessions will run from 7:45-9:00 p.m.

Sullivan's gem, homer help Peabody West open state Final Four in style
Peabody West second baseman Kyle Lynch tosses the ball to first for the last out in Peabody's 5-1 win yesterday. Peabody West will play this afternoon against Southborough and again tomorrow against North Leominster.
NORWOOD — The tournament has become popularly known as the state Little League Final Four, but if yesterday's game is any indication, Peabody West is threatening to turn it into the Final One in a matter of days.

Mention the word tennis around Sharen Solomon and her passion for the sport becomes instantly apparent, if not contagious.
"I'm just really into tennis ... a tennis fanatic," she admits.
That she and her husband John spent their honeymoon at the U.S. Open shouldn't come as a surprise. -
