Salem State professor sets masters record

Andrew Darien is a history professor at Salem State, and last Friday he made a little history of his own.

The professor and three teammates set an American and world record in the masters distance medley at the Boston University Terrier Invitational. The distance medley is a relay race with legs of 1,200, 400, 800 and 1600 meters. Darien ran the 800 leg in 2:03 and the team's record time was 10:55.1.

A Big Ten finalist and All-Academic selection during his undergraduate years at Michigan, Darien and his teammates are members of Boston's Eliot Track Club, a masters club for runners 40 and older.

Currently on sabbatical according to a news release from Salem State, Darien is a professor of modern American history and coordinate's SSU's history master's degree program.
