2013 SALEM NEWS GIRLS SOCCER PLAYER OF THE YEAR

CAITLIN HARTY

Beverly Senior

Striker

Not many players can match Caitlin Harty’s competitive desire, speed or ability to get a shot off with defenders draped all over her.

Not many players can match the incredible statistics Harty put up the last two seasons, either.

Graduating as Beverly High’s all-time leading scorer with 138 goals, 42 assists and 180 points, Harty turned in an All-New England, All-State and All-Conference season as a senior. She led the North Shore with 48 goals while adding 13 assists to tie the area single-season record with 61 points.

“The thing that sets Caitlin apart is her speed, but she also has a knack for creating space for herself and has a great shot,” said Beverly head coach Kristin Simpson. “She’s not only the best player I’ve coached, but one of the best leaders. Caitlin’s an all-around great kid.”

Ranked No. 2 in Beverly’s senior class, Harty will play in the Division 1 Patriot League at the College of the the Holy Cross. She’s also an all-star in track and helped lead Beverly’s soccer program to new heights.

Harty had the winning goals in Beverly’s first victories over Danvers and Peabody in several years, helping the Orange-and-Black capture a share of their first Northeastern Conference title in 15 years. She was named Northeastern Conference MVP as well as the Division 2 Player of the Year for the state of Massachusetts.

A four-year starter, Harty had at least 15 goals in each of her varsity seasons. She set an area record with 50 goals as a junior and totaled an unfathomable 98 goals in her last 44 high school games. She’s thankful to her father for the technical and tactical advice, and to Simpson believing in her and teaching her to love the game.
