GIRLS BASKETBALL
Behind a double-double from Julia Davis (21 rebounds, 17 points), Ipswich downed North Andover 58-39 at home last night as the Tigers stymied the Scarlett Knights offense, which scored just 12 points in the first half.
Davis's big night came fresh off a 22 rebound, 21 point game against Georgetown last Friday and the junior is really showing signs of a growing maturity.
"She's got great size and she's growing into her size and that's making the difference," said Tigers (9-2) head coach Mandy Zegarowski. "She's using her body to take up space and her positioning is great off the rim."
North Andover did come storming back in the third quarter to cut the lead to nine points by tightening up against Davis, but junior captain Brigid O'Flynn (12 points) and freshman point guard Masey Zegarowski (10 points, eight assists) were able to pick up the slack. O'Flynn produced through hustle and a determination to attack the basket while Zegarowski knocked down a pair of huge three-pointers that helped quell North Andover's third quarter surge. The entire team meanwhile, defended well throughout the game.
