Tuesday's area roundup: Ipswich takes down Triton for first win

BOYS BASKETBALL

The Ipswich boys basketball team hadn’t tasted victory this season, and falling behind 10-0 in the first quarter last night wasn’t the recipe they had in mind when it came to finding a way to get the win.

The Tigers shook off that slow start, however, and rallied to tip Triton, 50-41, for their first win of the year at home.

“It was a great team effort on all spectrums. Every guy out there, it didn’t matter if they played two minutes or 30, they had high energy and it showed,” said Ipswich coach Alan LaRoche. “The guys were exceptional on defense, and we said that was what we needed to do to win games.”

Matt Jeager was excellent shooting from the perimeter, nailing four triples and totaling a game-best 23 points. Sophomore Jake Long scored 11 points, and had seven of those in the fourth quarter to help the Tigers (1-8) close the door. Robbie Glavin had a huge game on the glass, with 17 rebounds alongside six steals and three assists.

Catholic Memorial 79, St. JOhn’s Prep 65: The Eagles suffered thier first loss as the host Knights caused some key turnovers in the second half. Kareem Davis scored 18 for the Prep while Max Burt had 14 and Ben Judson added nine. St. John’s (6-1) couldn’t overcome five CM players in double-figures.

Hamilton-Wenham 59, Rockport 55: The Generals (9-2) clamped down defensively and on the board in the second to hold off Rockport, which had the lead at one point in the fourth quarter. Jimmy Campbell had a team-high 17 points to go with 11 rebounds, six assists and three steals for Hamilton and Henry Eagar had 16 points and 12 boards for a double-double of his own. Nikos Lara also made some key shots and finished with nine points.

Masconomet 70, Amebsury 68: Junior guard Jake Rudolph exploded for 31 points to lead the Chieftains (2-5) to their second win of the year. Senior forward Kevin Martin chipped in 18 points in a solid effort as well.
