The Beverly High School Athletic Hall of Fame will induct 11 new members on Saturday, April 5 in a ceremony at the Danversport Yacht Club. Inductees include Brian Nelson (Class of 1974, hockey and track), Richard Giunta (Class of 1980, football and lacrosse), Peter Wynne (Class of 1981, basketball), Pam Morose (Class of 1983, field hockey and softball), Derek Dionne (Class of 1989, soccer, basketball and baseball), Jessica Davidson (Class of 2003, swimming), and Emily Rinaldi (Class of 2003, gymnastics). In addition, the BHS boys track relay team of 1967, which were New England champions, will also be honored. Tickets will be available for purchase at Todd’s Sporting Goods on Cabot Street, or from Dave Jellerson, until March 29.


The YMCA of Greater Beverly will be holding an open house tomorrow from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Patrons can visit the Y free of charge while enjoying full access to our expansive facility with all member privileges and take part in some exclusive pool offerings including aqua aerobics (8-9 a.m. and 10:30-11:30 a.m.) and aqua zumba (9:30-10:30 a.m.) and sample mini swim lessons from Noon to 2 p.m. For more information, visit


The Beverly Knights of Columbus will be holding a Free Throw Contest this Sunday at the Beverly YMCA Sterling Center beginning at 3:30 p.m. The event is open to all boys and girls ages 9-14. Nine and 10-year-old players begin at 3:30 p.m.; 11 and 12-year-olds begin at 5 p.m., and 13 and 14-year-olds will start at 6:30 p.m.


The North Shore Softball Umpire Association (NSSUA) will be running a Softball Umpires School in February 2014 at Marblehead High School. The school will certify umpires to work high school and recreational leagues on the North Shore. School will held Mondays from 6:30-9 p.m. for seven consecutive weeks starting Feb. 3.
