Danvers Girls Softball is currently accepting registrations for the 2014 season. The league has been restructured this year to include new league names and grade eligibility. The new structure is: Pre-School Fundamentals, T-Ball (Kindergarten & 1st grade), Junior (grades 2-3), Minor (grades 4-5), Middle School (grades 6-8), and High School (grades 9-12). The Middle School and High School leagues will be entirely re-drafted and tryouts will be held March 29. Registration fees are: $35 for Pre-School Fundamentals, $55 for T-ball and $100 for all other leagues, with a family maximum of $200 if the registration is received prior to Feb. 15. After that date, the fee for each league will increase by $10 with a family maximum of $220. The North Shore Softball Umpire Association (NSSUA) will be running a Softball Umpires School in February 2014 at Marblehead High School. The school will certify umpires to work high school and recreational leagues on the North Shore. School will held Mondays from 6:30-9 p.m. for seven consecutive weeks starting Feb. 3. The Top Gun Softball Pitching Clinic is accepting registration for six Sunday sessions running beginning January 26. Beginners go from 8:30-9:30 a.m. followed by intermediate and advanced from 9:30-10:30 a.m. All sessions are at Bishop Fenwick High School and are run by coach Paul Lyman along with Shannon Lyman-Blacker and Jackie Collier, who both pitched in college. The Silver Streaks Skating Club in Peabody will be holding a new session of skating lessons for boys and girls of all ages. Group classes are held Wednesdays at 4:15 p.m. and Sundays at 3:50 p.m. Advanced skates can join their Figure Skating Club. HALLS OF FAME
The Beverly High School Athletic Hall of Fame will induct 11 new members on Saturday, April 5 in a ceremony at the Danversport Yacht Club. Inductees include Brian Nelson (Class of 1974, hockey and track), Richard Giunta (Class of 1980, football and lacrosse), Peter Wynne (Class of 1981, basketball), Pam Morose (Class of 1983, field hockey and softball), Derek Dionne (Class of 1989, soccer, basketball and baseball), Jessica Davidson (Class of 2003, swimming), and Emily Rinaldi (Class of 2003, gymnastics). In addition, the BHS boys track relay team of 1967, which were New England champions, will also be honored. Tickets will be available for purchase at Todd’s Sporting Goods on Cabot Street, or from Dave Jellerson, until March 29.

The Beverly Knights of Columbus will be holding a Free Throw Contest this Sunday at the Beverly YMCA Sterling Center beginning at 3:30 p.m. The event is open to all boys and girls ages 9-14. Nine and 10-year-old players begin at 3:30 p.m.; 11 and 12-year-olds begin at 5 p.m., and 13 and 14-year-olds will start at 6:30 p.m.
Salem Little League will have its final registration for the 2014 season Tuesday, Jan. 28 from 6-8 p.m. at the Jackson Hewitt Offices, 138 Canal Street in Salem (in the Family Dollar Plaza across from Crosby’s Market). Cost is $65 for T-Ball, $120 for one player in baseball or softball, $200 for two players from the same family or househould and $250 for three or more from the same family or household. All major credit cards except for American Express are accepted. Returning players from 2013 must register for 2014. Parents of new players will need to bring a copy of the child’s birth certificate, a Massachusetts License or current picture ID and two other documents showing proof of Salem residence, such as car registration and utility bills. Registration for Danvers Babe Ruth in the Prep (13-year-old) and Major (14-15) divisions runs through April 11. The fee is $140, and the divisions begin in late April and run through the end of June. The Senior Division, for players ages 16-19, has a signup deadline of May 11. Fee is $160, and there will be competitive tryouts for this one team, which begins play June 1 and concludes in mid-August. There will also be an Lou Thompkins summer team for the first time, with games being played from mid-June through the end of August and travelling throughout Eastern Mass. to play. Lynn Classical is seeking two experienced offensive assistant football coaches for the 2014 season. Interested candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of coaching experience at the high school level or higher.
