Saturday at the normal Coaches Invitational, Marblehead’s A.J. Ernst edged Peabody’s Drew Fossa (4:24) to win the mile in an outstanding race.
Bishop Fenwick senior captain Charlie Maistrellis broke the school record in the 300, with a time of 37.09 and sixth overall. Maistrellis also finished third in the 55 dash (6.79), while Eric Razney placed sixth in the long jump (20-2).
Swampscott’s Bennett Smith ran a PR in the 1000 meters (2:46.72), Jordan James ran the 55 meter dash in 7.17 and Justin Chasse had an indoor PR of 47-9 in the shot put.
At the MSTCA Elite Invitational held yesterday, Beverly’s 4x800 relay was third in 9:36.34, a new school record. Abby Walsh ran the mile and finished ninth, setting a new freshman record for Beverly with a time of 5:14.4. Nicole DeMars was ninth in the two mile (11:30) and Kristen O’Connor finished ninth in the 55 high hurdles (9.09). Marblehead’s Janaya Randell was second in the mile with a time of 5:07. From Bishop Fenwick, Arianna Maida ran a personal best 5:23 in the mile and placed 19th overall.
At the regular Invitational meet held Saturday, Peabody’s Katie Gallo was second in the shot put (32-01) and Sam Allen was fourth in the 2-mile (11:33). Beverly junior Julianna Wesley placed fourth in the mile (5:23.5), while O’Connor won the high jump at 5-1.
Peabody 6, Gloucester 1: Captain Derek DeMild had a natural hat trick, scoring three consecutive goals in the third period as the host Tanners (4-9-1) pulled away from Gloucester. DeMild’s linemates and fellow captains Mike Vadala (goal, assist) and Andrew Bisconti (2 assists) also had big afternoons for Peabody, which got single goals from Chris Gillen (his 1st on the varsity) and fourth liner Jason Marshall. Freshman Aaron McConnell stopped 22 shots while Guiseppe Zarro, Bobby Caproni, Nick Merryman, Pat McCarthy, Tim January, Dan Pratto and Gillen all had assists.
