Hamilton-Wenham 4, Pentucket 0: Alana Vecchiarello scored pair of goals for H-W (13-1-2) which wrapped up its regular season as the Cape Ann League champions. Emily Gaucher and Anna Rourke tallied a goal each for the Generals while Sam Charette and Carolyn Cook controlled play out of the back end.
Ipswich 1, Lynnfield 0: Maddie Howe followed her penalty kick after it was saved and scored in the ninth minute of the second half for Ipswich (7-4-7). Central midfielders Emily Folan (junior) and Brigid O’Flynn (senior) controlled the midfield as well as they have all season.
Masconomet 2, Newburyport 1: Lexi Sheehan scored her 13th and 14th goals of the season to lift the Chieftains (11-4-2), whose win gave Hamilton-Wenham the Cape Ann League title. Claudia Marsh and Kaleigh White assisted on Sheehan’s goal, which both came in the second half. Masco’s backline of Paige Pratt, Courtney Bouchard, Izzy Scarpone and Olivia Bounopane was outstanding.
Bp. Fenwick 1, Medfield 0: The Crusaders (8-6-3) clinched a spot in the state tournament thanks to Erinn Johnson’s goal with nine minutes left in regulation, assisted by Grace Celona. Jackie Hart, Natalie Moore and Kathleen Moran were very strong in preserving the shutout at midfield and Maura Benson played well on defense.
Hamilton-Wenham 2, Pentucket 1: The Generals (4-11) showed up on senior day in a big way. Senior captain Catherine Martin had the game winner for H-W off an assist from senior captain Olivia Ambrose. Ambrose had the Generals’ first goal in the first half while junior Taylor Ward was strong at left back.
Salem 2, Gloucester 1: Alexa Gilbert scored the game-winning goal with five minutes left just after Gloucester had tied the game late in the second half. Gilbert also finished with an assist on the Witches (4-11-2) first half goal scored by Courtney Maurice.
Masconomet 5, Newburyport 0: Senior Luke Schell had two goals, Adam Grammer was exceptional in the midfield and senior captain Chip Sherman had a strong day for Masco (14-0-2), which won the Cape Ann League for the third straight year. Tighe VanLenten, Jeff Panella and junior P.J. Criscione had a goal each for the Chieftains.
Pentucket 4, Hamilton-Wenham 0: The Generals wrapped up the season at 5-8-3 with a loss on Senior Day.
Waring 3, Gann Academy 0: Kyle Patrick had two goals and Matt Lyman had the other goal for Waring (6-3-4) while Charlie Mitchell, Adrian Hupan and Aiden Wood also had good games.
Ipswich 3, Lynnfield 1: The Tigers (6-6-4) rallied after falling behind by a goal and now need two points in their last two games to qualify for the postseason. Sam Benford scored the winning goal and had an assist, David Dick also had a goal and an assist and Ryan Law scored while Eric Fyrer had a strong effort in goal.
Salem 3, Saugus 0: Salem won in straight games (25-17, 25-8, 25-19) to improve to 9-10 and will need to win today against Beverly to make the state tournament. Seniorr captain Kylie Thesz (eight kills, three blocks) and libero Hannah Mullarkey (12 digs and six aces) had solid outings for the Witches.
COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY
Springfield College 8, Salem St. 2: The Lady Vikings (9-7) dropped their final home game as Springfield scored the first four goals of the game. Courtney Lynch had a goal and an assist for Salem while Kathleen Clark also had a goal.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL
St. Joseph’s 3, Gordon 0: The Fighting Scots (15-13) had a two match win streak broken by a 25-22, 25-22, 25-7 loss. Lauren Kranyak led Gordon with eight kills.
