Friday's area roundup: Peabody softball gets back in win column

SOFTBALL

Peabody 13, Marblehead 1: The Tanners took care of business in six innings, plating seven runs in the fifth and slugging three homers. Holly Smith (3-4, 2 RBI, HR), Jess Raymond (4-4, 2 RBI), Olivia Brothers (2-4, 2 RBI, HR), and Michelle McHugh (4-4, 3 RBI, HR) carried the big bats for Peabody (6-1). Kaylee Brazil and Mikayla Wallace each added two hits for Peabody while Shelbi Wilson threw a three-hitter with nine strikeouts.

Salem 6, Gloucester 2: For the second consecutive game Desiree Martin stole five bases for the Witches (3-5). Martin also had three hits and scored two runs. Jojo Coleman went 2 for 4 with a stolen base and three RBI, Rachael Zipper drove in a run and played well behind the plate, and Sydney Hanford stood out at second base while also contributing a hit, two walks, a run and a stolen base.

Winsor 3, Pingree 2: Gabby Muniz had a RBI single and Nora Sullivan hit a solo homer to drive in the two runs for the Highlanders (4-2). Haley Sabino and June Kiely played well defensively.

Whittier 3, North Shore Tech/Essex Aggie 7: Krystal Dion hit a solo home run to lead off the Bulldogs’ (5-3) sixth inning run. Kaera Wyse finished with a triple and two RBI, Emma Bouchard added two hits.

agateHed:BASEBALL

Gloucester 1, Salem 0: Junior Bryan Lora allowed just three hits and an unearned run while fanning six, but the Witches (0-7) came out on the wrong side of a pitcher’s duel at home. Josh McRae had a pair of hits for Salem and catcher Austin Connolly played well behind the dish.

Bancroft 4, Pingree 2: Freshman Cal Perry continued to pitch well in relief with 3 2/3 scoreless innings. Erik Larsen and Nick Antenucci both went 2-for-3 for the Highlanders (3-6).

agateHed:BOYS TENNIS

Masconomet 4, Newburyport 1: The Chieftains (4-1) swept doubles play with wins from Jack Roscoe/Nick Drago (6-3, 3-6, 6-4) and Sam Gordon/Cam Coleburn (6-2, 6-1). Jon Cabour (6-1, 6-1) and Cam Netland (6-0, 6-1) picked up singles wins for Masco.
