Friday's area roundup: Peabody softball gets back in win column

Phillips Exeter 4, St. John’s Prep 3: The Eagles lost 10-8 in a super tie-breaker to lose a close match that doesn’t count in their MIAA record. Dan Cunningham (6-4, 3-6, 10-1) and Ian Wright (6-2, 6-1) each won singles matches for the Eagles. Cunningham also teamed up with Nico Limacher for an 8-3 win in doubles, and Wright and Alec McNiff also won at doubles 9-8 (7-5).

Hamilton-Wenham 3, Pentucket 2: Woody Watson took the first singles match (6-1, 6-1) to help the Chieftains improve to 3-1. Joe Love won at second singles (6-4, 6-0) and No. 2 doubles team Frankie Bucco/Jack Hopkins (1-6, 6-4, 6-1) pull out the win.

Marblehead 5, Peabody 0: The Magicians move to 5-0 on the season with wins from Tory Booth (6-0, 6-0), Annie Ryan (6-0, 6-0), Sarah Katz (6-1, 6-2), Meghan Gabel/Kelly Mealey (6-0, 6-1) and Amanda Gilberg/Meagan Hanratty (6-0, 6-2)

Dany Chhan played well at third singles despite the loss. The Tanners slipped to 5-2 overall.

Gloucester 3, Salem 2: The Witches (0-7) came very close to picking up their first win of the season. Madison Ballou won at third singles (4-6, 6-1, 6-4) and Katie Dube and Jessi Tassineri combined for a win at second doubles (6-4, 7-5) to account for the Salem points. Ari Gaffney lost in three sets at first singles in the deciding match.

Bishop Fenwick 5, Matignon 0: Bishop Fenwick (6-2) saw Demi Velonis (6-1, 6-0), Sara Kanarkiewicz (6-2, 6-2) and Meredith Maguire (6-0, 6-0) control singles play while Megan McGunigle/Jeena DeFrancesco (7-6, 6-1) and Sophia DiPietro/Nicole Russell (6-4, 6-4) swept the doubles matches.

Swampscott 5, LC 0: The Big Blue improved to 6-0 as Anna Raptunovich (6-0, 6-1), Vivien Gere (6-0, 6-0), Veronica Pyatigorskaya (6-0, 6-0) took first, second and third singles respectively while Allegra Walker/Jessica Zolott (6-1, 6-0) and Anya Peterson/Natalyia Andrushchenko (6-3, 6-3) won the doubles matches.

Masconomet 3, Hamilton-Wenham 2: No. 2 singles Evelyn Harbert won her match (6-4, 5-7, 10-4) as the Chieftains move to 5-2 overall. Ava Reiniche was solid at third singles (6-4, 6-2) and second doubles team Samantha Moynihan/Alexa Ina were victorious (6-3, 6-3).

H-W’s (2-2) Caroline Gribbell (6-1, 6-0) topped first singles while first doubles Caroline Flores and Colleen Ford won 7-5,6-2.
