---- — Arkansas flew in from Los Angeles to see St. John’s Prep running back Johnathan Thomas and offered him a scholarship. Bret Bielema is the Razorback head coach, and Joel Thomas took over as assistant coach/running backs coach last December. He had previously been at Washington.
“He called me last night, and asked what our schedule was like,” said Prep head coach/athletic director Jim O’Leary, who led the Eagles to the Division 1 Super Bowl championship last December. “I told him the kids would be lifting and doing agility drills early in the morning before school.”
After talking to Thomas and O’Leary after the workouts Arkansas offered him the scholarship. Thomas, who had an outstanding performance at the Under Armour Combine in Florida over New Year’s where he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.47, has also received offers from Maryland, Boston College, Virginia, UMass, UConn, Holy Cross, and Yale.
Thomas rushed for 1,800 yards with 15 touchdowns and had three TD catches. He is expected to make a decision before starting his senior year for the Eagles.
