The Masconomet football team (3-1) went into halftime last night tied at six-a piece, but a hard fought fourth quarter performance propelled them to a 20-13 over Catholic Memorial.
Chris Schleer has a pair of touchdowns, one on 3-yard run and the other on a 38-yard pass to Corey tines.
“It was a really great performance from the entire team,” said head coach Jim Pughe. “We held them late and were able to get the ball back. We had a long ride down here, so it’s great to get this win. We’re back to work this week to prepare for Gloucester.”
Mike Tivinis ran in the final Chieftain score from 34 yards out and Dylan Mann ran hard all game.
The Beverly field hockey team scored early to grab the momentum then pulled away from Marblehead in a battle of unbeatens.
Libby Konaxis scored in the first minute of the game and the Panthers also got a pair of goals from Katie Pietrini and one from Katie Wheatley in a 4-0 win.
Beverly moved to 8-0 while Marblehead slipped to 6-1-1.
Pietrini also added an assist, and Nicole Woods and Molly Pittman each had one assist. Marykate Flaherty stood out defensively for Beverly.
”The girls came into it very excited. Marblehead is a big rival and we were able to come up with a quick lead,” Beverly coach Tricia Murphy said. “Libby’s goal set up momentum for the rest of the game.”
Marblehead goalie, Cassidy Alla had 16 saves, while Leah Brooks and Alli Hanratty both played well for the Magicians.
Bishop Fenwick 1, Westford Academy 1: Erinn Johnson scored with four minutes left in the game to tie the score for the Crusaders (3-3-2). Halle Mahoney and Maura Simpson had strong defensive games for Fenwick.
ME 1, Newburyport 0: Olivia Mastendino scored the only goal for ME (8-0).
