---- — The Bishop Fenwick hockey team couldn’t carry the momentum from its second win of the season into a New Year’s Eve matinee against Catholic Central League rival Matignon, as the Crusaders fell 4-2 at Stoneham Arena yesterday afternoon.
Fenwick (2-6) actually did carry some energy from last week’s 4-0 decision over Lynnfield into yesterday’s game and jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Brian Corcoran skated the visitors to a 1-0 lead assisted by Jake Brennan and P.J. Usalis and the Crusaders appeared to be in control with Brian Bassett scored helped by Brennan and Drew Thibodeau with 1:59 left in the first.
The Warriors got some life back, however, when they made it 2-1 just 12 seconds after Bassett’s goal. Matignon (4-2) then tied it just 32 seconds into the second period and the Crusaders never recovered, with the hosts taking the lead with 4:04 left in the second and adding an insurance tally in the third.
Matignon goalie Shane Mason held off all kinds of Fenwick pressure with 28 saves. Fenwick junior Pat O’Leary stopped 12 shots in the setback.
