Marblehead’s Matt Millett had missed six straight shots before the final possession at Gloucester’s Benjamin A. Smith Fieldhouse last night. But he drained the shot matter most, an off-balance runner with .6 seconds to play that lifted the Magicians to a 46-45 win.
”I didn’t care how much we were up by, I knew it was coming down to the final possession because it’s always a tough game in Gloucester,” Magicians coach Wayne Hanscom said. “Matt’s a lefty so he drove to his left and put the shot up, we were fortunate that he hit it. Gloucester had a nice comeback but we outlasted them.”
The Magicians (4-2) led throughout the game propelled by Millett’s 15 points. Will Millett chipped in seven points and Spencer Craig also scored seven with Cian Saunders adding eight.
North Reading 57, Hamilton-Wenham 44: James Foye scored 22 points but it wasn’t enough to lift the Generals by the unbeaten Hornets. Nikos Lara and Shawn Kotch each had five points and eight rebounds for Hamilton (1-5) and Henry Eager chipped in eight points.
Notre Dame Academy 69, North Shore Tech/Essex Aggie 44: Jordan Mendez and Trace Schaejbe each scored 11 points, but the Bulldogs (0-7) were hampered by 29 turnovers and lost on the road in Lawrence.
Lynn English 65, Peabody 47: The Tanners trailed by five at halftime but stumbled in the third quarter as English got untracked offensively. Yardley Tavares led Peabody (1-5) with 11 points and Jared McCarron scored eight.
