In the opening shift of the third period, first line right wing Tyler Bird flew up ice and fired a shot on Collett that was stopped, but linemate Andrew Brandano went far post for the rebound and was rewarded when it popped free, giving his team a 3-1 advantage just 13 seconds into the final frame. Bird’s empty netter, on a pass from Brian Pinho, sealed it with five seconds left.
The entire Prep defense, highlighted by captain Brent Murray, as well as Ean Mendeszoon and Evan Leclerc, were lauded by Hanson for their work Saturday night. So was Price, who was especially huge with three minutes to go when CM went on the power play and pulled its goalie for a 6-on-4 advantage, but couldn’t put the puck past the netminder.
“It’s our biggest win of the season so far,” said Hanson, whose team plays at Peabody (today), Xaverian (Wednesday) and Austin Prep (Saturday). “Now we have to keep the momentum going off of this one and take it into another very tough week of games.”
