On the Run: Best North Shore races to be honored on awards night

The diverse offering of road races on the North Shore is being celebrated in a new way.

After the public nominated races and a panel selected the winners, the results are in for the Best of the North Shore Road Race Guide 2012 awards. The winners will be honored at The Best of the North Shore Road Races Awards Night on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. at Finz Seafood & Grill in Salem.

The winners and honorable mentions are as follows:

Race of the Year: Yankee Homecoming 10-Miler

Best Race Shirts: Miles Over the Moon

Best Holiday Race: Wild Turkey 5-Mile Run (Salem)

Honorable Mention: Beverly Reindeer Run, Hangover Classic 5K/10K

Relay of the Year: Lynn Woods

Best Race Course: Lone Gull 10K

Honorable Mention: Ring Around the Neck, Backshore 5-Miler

Best 1-Mile Race: Derby Street Mile

Honorable Mention: High Street Mile

Best 5K Race: Run for All Ages

Starts and stops

Still looking for a long-distance race to run in the spring? The fourth annual Black Cat 10- or 20-miler in Salem is scheduled for Saturday, March 2, at 8 a.m. The race starts at Bentley School in Salem and heads out to Marblehead Neck before runners turn around; the 20-miler requires runners to do two laps on the course. The event also features a 20-mile team relay that benefits Allie’s Scholarship Fund. For more information, visit www.blackcatroadrace.com.
