North Reading 3, Masconomet 1: Jared Brann scored a power play goal off a pass from captain Alec DiGiorgio, but the Chieftains (4-8-1) were once again snakebitten offensively despite pouring 32 shots on net. Captain Matt Cardillo stopped 11 of 13 shots between the pipes before the Hornets iced the game with an empty netter.
Marblehead 5, Everett 2: The Lady Headers went off in the first period, scoring four goals in six minutes. Brittany Smith led all scorers with two goals and one assist as Marblehead moved to 7-5-1. Brittany Lydon had a goal and an assist, while Caroline Hughes and Meg Gray each recorded a goal in the win. Goalie Aly Hopkins had 12 saves.
BEverly’s Flaherty places first: At this weekend’s Coaches Invitational, Brendan Flaherty captured first place in the 300 with a time of 36.39 seconds. Harry Brown was third in the shot (46-11 1/2), Alex Greco came in fourth in the 1000 (2:39.98) and Jay Richardson was fifth in the high jump (6 ft).
Thomas second for Danvers: Sophomore John Thomas broke a school record in the Elite portion of the Coaches Invitational. Thomas set a new school record in the 55 meter dash (6.58), which was previously held by Collin Webb (6.67) from 2004. Joe Manson just missed placed in the shot with a throw of 51-11. At Saturday’s meet James Bailey ran a personal best in the mile (4:45) as did Drew Piazza (4:36).
Crimble impressive for Salem: Salem junior Jon Crimble set a new meet record in the long jump, taking first with a 21-6. He also ran a personal best in the 300, placing fourth in 36.67.
Dombrowski sets record for St. John’s: Junior Evan Dombrowski set a new St. John’s Prep school record for indoor shot put with a throw of 55-1 1/2, which beat Sean Enos’ old record of 54-8. Dombrowski took fourth in the meet.
Liam Dow (mile, 4:28.84) and Will Stark (600, 1:26.61) also ran well for St. John’s, setting personal records.
