Weekend area sports roundup: Beverly beats Danvers, Salem to stay unbeaten


Westfield State 70, SSU 65: Justin Nieves led SSU (12-7) with 19 points while Tavone Wynder (15 points) and Bryan Ortiz (12 points) also had strong offensive contributions.

Curry 84, Gordon 76: David Dempsey led all scorers with 22 points and Alex Carnes finished with 18 points but the Scots dropped to 12-6 overall. Sophomore Jason Dempsey (11 points), junior Park Thomas (10 points) and sophomore Hans Miersma (eight rebounds) also had good games


Roger Williams 58, Endicott 40: Jordan Ferland led Endicott (11-7) off the bench with 13 points, eight rebounds, four steals, two blocks and an assist.

Westfield State 81, SSU 51: Peabody native Bridget Dullea (five steals) scored 17 of her 19 points in the second half but the Lady Vikings dropped to 8-12 overall.

Curry 51, Gordon 37: Gordon dropped to 2-16 despite a 14-point performance by Skylar Bareford.


Gulls swept by national powerhouses: Endicott fell 3-1 to 13 ranked Baruch and 3-0 to seventh ranked Rivers. Freshman Tyler Bacon dished out 20 assists in his collegiate debut against Baruch while he and Carter Roche combined for 13 assists in the loss to Rivers.


D’Alfonso shines at Southern Maine Invitational: Leanna D’Alfonso recorded the best Gordon finish of the day for the Scots claiming third in the 400 dash with a 1:02.94. Damilola Junaid was seventh in the 55 dash (7.82) and was sixth in the 200 dash (27.77). Cross country standout Leanne Beedle was ninth in the mile (5:31.41). For the men, David Popa was ninth in the 200 (24.60) and 16 in the 55 dash (7.13).
