Monday's Area roundup: Salem baseball earns first win of 2013

SOFTBALL

Newburyport 11, Ipswich 3: The Tigers  (3-8) saw Caroline Lynch go 2-for-3 at the dish and Emiley DeMarco pitched well in relief despite the loss.

Danvers 5, Lynn Classical 1: The Falcons continued their undefeated streak at 11. Devin Johnson went 2-for-3 with two RBI, while Kendall Meehan, who went 3-for-4 at the plate, got her 11th win on the hill with six strikeouts. Senior captain Julia Sagesse finished 2-for-3 on the day.

Masconomet 12, Manchester Essex 5: The Chieftains won their fifth straight and move to 7-2 on the season. Sam Taylor had an RBI double for the Hornets (1-8) in the second inning.

Rivers 7, Pingree 5: Haley Sabino finished 2-for-3 with three RBI as the Highlanders drop to 8-4 with the loss. Caroline Fay hit a three-run triple, while Nora Doherty played excellent defense at second base.

Beverly 11, Saugus 10: Emily Pitman got the win for the Panthers (5-5), scored the winning run on a passed ball and went 3-4 with a triple, and three RBI and two runs scored. Natalie Shea went 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored, Kate Silvestri went 2-for-4, with a triple.

Marblehead 11, Salem 3: Michaela Leblanc gave up two earned runs on 10 hits, while striking out to for the Magicians (8-4). Offensively Marblehead was led by Olivia Vener who went 3-for-3 with three runs scored and Emily Messigner had a two-run double.

Bishop Fenwick 6, Matignon 4: The Crusaders (8-7) won the game in the eighth inning as Chandler Wilder reached on an error, Jen Crovo singled and Bridget Corcoran singled Wilder home for the winning run. Corcoran finished 3-for-4 on the day with two runs scored and two RBI, while Crovo went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI and two runs scored.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Masconomet 13, No. Andover 12 (OT): Rachel Rogal scored her third goal with 29 seconds left in the first overtime and Masco (9-4) held possession for most of the second session to up-end their rivals. Amy Arnold also scored three goals, Kathleen Gillespie had two goals and three assists and goalie Lily Miller made a critical save late in regulation to help Masco’s cause.

Hamilton-Wenham 10, Salem 4: Generals goalie Morgan Kimball was outstanding with 21 saves as the Generals held off NEC South leading Salem. Emily Gaucher paced the offense with five goals, Catherine Martin scored three and Julia Ferreira and Nicole Foringer contributed one goal each.

Bishop Fenwick 20, Lowell Catholic 9: Fenwick got seven goals from Anna Moulton and six from Annette Ruggiero to qualify for the postseason. Grace Celona added one goal and four assists, Emily Rocker had five helpers, and Natalie Emerson scored twice. Caroline Crawford, Lexi Rose, Kayla Harris and Merry Harrington each had one goal for the Crusaders.

Marblehead 19, Wilmington 12: Kiley Fischer produced seven points (5 goals, 2 assists) to push her career total to 405 as the Magicians won their 12th consecutive game. Meggie Collins also had seven points with three goals and four assists. Cassie Rodgers had two goals, two assists, four draw controls and two ground balls, and Tyler Phillips contributed four goals for Marblehead (12-1).

Peabody 18, Danvers 14: Nicole Napolitano led all scorers with six goals and six assists as the Tanners (8-3) qualified for the state tournament with the win. Sarah Napolitano added for goals while Courtney Smith had three goals and one assist. Cheyenne Jackson had 11 saves in net.

Swampscott 18, Gloucester 12: Bridget Lawless had three goals and two assists as the Big Blue (2-10) got the win yesterday. Lauren Sullivan and Chloe Dorgan (one assist) also had three goals.

Manchester Essex 6, Ipswich 5: Brittany Smith had three goals while goalie Katie Furber finished with 13 saves for the Hornets (10-2).
