Thursday's area roundup: Fenwick gymnasts finish regular season 7-0

GYMNASTICS

Fenwick 125.85, Peabody 124: Eileen Delory was first in the all-around with a score of 34.25 via winning vault (8.55) and floor (8.7) to help the Crusaders beat their crosstown rivals and finish the regular season a perfect 7-0. Kim Shinnick was third all-around with 32.25 with a second on vault (8.35) and Kristen Kilcommons tied for second on vault 8.35 for the winners.

Amy Sinewitz finished second in the all-around with a 33.35 for Peabody, placing first on beam (8.65), second on floor (8.6) and third on vault (8.1). In addition, Shelby Coulter was first on bars (8-8) for the 1-9 Tanners.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Newman 50, Waring 48: Newman scored the winning basket with four seconds remaining to earn homecourt in the conference tournament. Jack Stanton led Waring with 19 points.

East Boston 58, St. John's Prep 52: East Boston led by 17 in the third quarter when the Prep (10-6) went on a defensive run to cut the lead to two. Steve Haladyna had 31 points and 10 rebounds for the Eagles and Mike Carbone chipped in eight.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

No. Shore Tech/Aggie 51, Chelsea 39: Kim Schuyler scored 23 points to lead the way and Ashley Merch chipped in eight points in North Shore Tech/Essex Aggie's third victory of the season.

BOYS TRACK

St. John's Runs at League meet: The Eagles had some strong performances at the Tri-County Division 1 league meet at the Reggie Lewis Center. Bryan Browne ran 35.40 in the 300 to finish second with the second fastest time in SJP history. Deklan Robinson was second in the high jump with a leap of 6-foot-2 and senior Jake Smith was second in the mile in 4:30.36, a time 28 seconds better than he ran just nine months ago.

Fenwick second: Bishop Fenwick had 76 points at the Tri-County Division 2 League meet at the Reggie Lewis Center. Eric Razney won the long jump (18-6), Charlie Maistrellis was second at (18-5), Dan Deschenes was second in the 600 (1:28), senior captain Chris Poirier took third in the hurdles (9.14) and in the high jump (5-7), Bryan Mendes was third in the 1000 (2:54) and Anthony Consoles was third in the shot with a toss of 39-11. The Crusaders' 4x200 won the league title with Razney, Maistrellis, Poirier and Nick Tambini running 1:40. The 4x400 was third in 3:44.

GIRLS TRACK

Crusaders No. 2 at league meet: Cardinal Spellman's 89 points edged out Fenwick's 74 in the Tri-County D2 league meet. Taylor Cunningham took the 1000 meter title in 3:19 and Hannah Smith was fourth in 3:23. Jessica Patnaude was second in the 300 (44.18), Natalie Emerson was second in the hurdles (10.38), Taylor Anderson was third in the 600 (1:50), Maggie Lepley finished third in the shot (27-11). Fenwick's 4x400 team was second in 4:31 run by Smith, Cunningham, Arianna Maida and Anderson. The 4x200 relay was also second in 1:58 run by Patnaud, Emerson, Nicole Lizotte and Julia Pierce.

COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL

Endicott 3, Newbury 0: The Gulls swept their first match in the NECC and got their first win of 2012, 25-14, 25-14, 25-20. Joshua Bruno had six kills and five blocks for the Gulls (1-3) while Jeremy Siden had eight kills and five digs.

COLLEGE HOCKEY

Salem State 6, UMass Dartmouth. 1: The Vikings (12-6-3) scored three shorthanded goals to take over first place in the MASCAC standings. Nick Lampson exploded for four goals in the victory while Eric Defelice scored twice.
