Hamilton-Wenham seniors Adam Celata and Reed Forsey just weren’t ready to say goodbye to their high school tennis careers.

Celata and Forsey, Hamilton-Wenham’s first doubles team, won in dramatic fashion to lift the Generals to a 3-2 win over Austin Prep in a Division 3 North quarterfinal yesterday.

With Woody Watson winning at first singles, 6-2, 6-2, and the second doubles team of Frankie Bucco and Jack Hopkins, 6-2, 6-1, producing the first two points for Hamilton-Wenham, the Generals needed one more point for the win. Celata and Forsey dropped their first set, 6-2, and trailed 5-2 in the second set before winning five straight points to prevail, 7-5.

In the third set, Celata and Forsey once again fell behind, this time 4-0, and once again came back for a 7-5 victory that clinched the match.

“The other team was match point against us at 5-3. It was a thrilling win for those guys and a great win for the team,” H-W (11-3) coach Joe Maher said.

Hamilton-Wenham will now host Bedford in the semifinal today (3:30 p.m.)
